TECNO launches India’s most affordable foldable smartphones — First impressions and more

TECNO has launched the second generation of its foldable PHANTOM V smartphones at an aggressive price point. The book-style PHANTOM V Fold 2 is priced at ₹79,999, while the PHANTOM V Flip 2 is priced at ₹39,999. Both smartphones will be available for purchase on Amazon starting December 13.

The PHANTOM V Fold 2 is what the company describes as the “strongest fold ever,” packing a 5750mAh battery, the largest available in foldable devices. The device boasts a 7.85-inch main display, a 6.42-inch cover screen, and is a giant leap over its predecessor, the first PHANTOM Fold.

The PHANTOM V Flip 2 offers a compact design and incorporates AI-powered features such as AI Image Cutout, Magic Removal, and Ella AI Writing, aimed at enhancing user creativity.

Key Features

Durability:

The PHANTOM V Fold 2 is constructed with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and aerospace-grade hinges, tested over 400,000 times for reliability.

The PHANTOM V Flip 2 also utilises aerospace-grade materials and Corning Gorilla Glass 8.

Display:

The PHANTOM V Fold 2 features a 7.85-inch main display and a 6.42-inch cover screen, touted as the largest in its category under ₹100,000.

The PHANTOM V Flip 2 offers a 6.9-inch main display and a 3.64-inch cover screen.

AI Integration:

Both devices include advanced AI features, such as Image Cutout and Circle-to-Search, aimed at boosting productivity and creativity.

First Impressions

TECNO sent me the PHANTOM V2 Fold for review, and I am not exaggerating when I say I was blown away by just how much difference a generation can make. The OG Fold was a 300-gram behemoth that had its moments. But the V2 Fold is thinner, lighter, much better optimised, and has decent cameras.

The battery life is impressive, and TECNO has introduced some fun little foldable features to complement the experience. Despite not being the smallest foldable phone out there, the PHANTOM V2 Fold seems more compact and certainly, when folded, more comfortable to hold.

As for the rest, you’ll have to wait for my full review. Watch this space.
