According to the weather agency, rain or thundershowers are most likely to occur in a few places in Kerala on Wednesday. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 km/h, gusting to 55 km/h, was expected to prevail over the adjacent southeast Arabian Sea. On Wednesday, the Sabarimala pilgrimage regions of Sannidhanam, Pamba and Nilackal were under a thunderstorm warning.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Enamakkal in Thrissur and Hosdurg in Kasaragod received 20 cm of rainfall, while Vadakara (18 cm), Irinjalakuda, Ponnani, Irikkur, and Thennala (17 cm), Kozhikode and Kudulu (16 cm), Chalakkudy and Angadipuram (15 cm), Kunnamkulam (14 cm), Vellanikkara, Perinthalamanna, Koyilandi, and Vadakara (13 cm), Karipur airport and Cheruvanchery (12 cm) received very heavy rainfall.
The rains have caused flash floods in some areas in the Coastal Karnataka districts. But no major damage has been reported in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. It also led to flooding in several houses and the collapse of compound walls in a few areas.
According to the IMD bulletin, the well-marked low-pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining Coastal Karnataka persists at 5:30 am on Wednesday.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels, which is likely to move west-northwestwards over the east-central Arabian Sea during the next two days.
The minimum temperatures are markedly above normal (5°C or more in Karnataka and above normal (1°C to 3°C) in Kerala).
Earlier on Tuesday, it also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over places in north Kerala and coastal Karnataka, which will decrease thereafter.
According to the Met Department, Bengaluru and its adjoining areas are expected to have a partly cloudy sky accompanied by light spells.
