One of the key approvals includes the procurement of 31 New Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts (NWJFACs) for the Indian Navy. These vessels are designed for low-intensity maritime operations, coastal surveillance, patrols, and search-and-rescue missions. Additionally, they will play a critical role in countering piracy, particularly in areas near India’s island territories, ensuring security in these vulnerable regions.
The DAC also approved the procurement of 120 Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC-1). These high-speed vessels will serve multiple purposes, including escorting high-value naval assets such as aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and submarines.

In the aviation sector, the DAC gave its nod for the acquisition of an advanced Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS) for the Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft. This system includes external airborne self-protection jammer pods, next-generation radar warning receivers, and related equipment.
To bolster coastal security, the council approved the procurement of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) M (MR) for the Indian Coast Guard. These helicopters are expected to play a vital role in coastal surveillance and security operations.
Additionally, the DAC sanctioned the overhaul of key military assets, including T-72 and T-90 tanks, BMP armoured vehicles, and engines of Sukhoi fighter aircraft. This modernisation effort aims to extend the operational life of these systems, ensuring their readiness for future combat scenarios and maintaining their reliability as part of India’s strategic defence inventory.
