The IMD said heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the northern and central parts of the state. Intermittent light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms is expected to persist over the next five days.
The district administrations in Kasaragod, Malappuram, Thrissur and Alappuzha have declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, tuition centres, anganwadis, and madrasas.
However, model residential schools will remain open, the administration clarified.
State Revenue Minister K Rajan has urged residents to stay vigilant as rainfall is likely to intensify in northern Kerala.
Authorities have issued a warning against fishing on the Kerala coast on December 2 and 3, the southern Karnataka coast on December 2, the Karnataka coast on December 3, and in the Lakshadweep region from December 3 to 5.

The IMD has predicted rainfall in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka for the next two days owing to Cyclone Fengal.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and districts like Hassan, Mandya, and Ramanagara. An orange alert has been issued for Udupi, Chikmagaluru, and Chikkaballapur which are expected to receive “very heavy to heavy rainfall”.
All anganwadis, government, aided, and private schools, along with pre-university colleges up to class 12, will remain closed on December 3.
