32nd Annual December Nights in Balboa Park & San Diego Model Railroad Museum Free Open House

1090 Merrill St - O/HO/S - As in previous years, the club will be open on the evening the CALTRAIN Holiday Train stops at the Menlo Park station. The club is open through the arrival of the train at about 7:25 pm, closes during the stop and reopens after it leaves (scheduled for 7:45 pm) untill 9:00 pm.; free, donations accepted. NIGHT TRAINS! at Twin City Model Railroad Museum

1021 Bandana Blvd E - 6:00 to 9:00 pm - Buildings and street lights glow warmly, setting the scene for specially lighted models of vintage passenger trains. The town of Mattlin is buried in a blizzard, and throughout the layout are miniature Christmas lights and decorations. Returning this year is their Christmas Train covered by hundreds of lights to wish all happy holidays;$7, kids under 5 free, family $20. Aberfoyle Junction O Gauge Model Railway's Christmas Display

club quonset hut, 128 Brock Rd - 10:00 am to 4:30 pm - Huge 2-Rail O Scale pike depicting southern Ontario in the late 1950s. Hand built models of both major railways, Canadian National & Canadian Pacific, run on separate rights of way; freight trains are up in terminal yards to be switched along the routes. Lighted passenger cars with full interior detailing recreate the era of the great passenger trains and there are many models of both late steam locomotives and 1st generation diesels, authentically detailed for specific prototypes, providing power to the trains as they run through a completely scenicked layout with fields, rivers, towns, a large city, and part of the Niagara Escarpment. A dusk to dawn scene where the room lighting dims and numerous tiny bulbs light streets and detailed buildings. Wonderful mugs & gift items; $8, seniors & students $6, kids $5.
