Life magazine is coming back to life.
The Hollywood Reporter reports supermodel Karlie Kloss and her husband, investor Josh Kushner, have acquired the publishing rights to the iconic publication from Dotdash Meredith. Kloss and Kushner’s holding company, Bedford Media, said they will relaunch “Life” as a print magazine with a “vibrant” digital and video presence.
“We see ‘Life’ as an uplifting and unifying voice in a chaotic media landscape,” Kloss, a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, said in a statement. “While Bedford is a new media company, we are deeply inspired by ‘Life’s’ iconic legacy and ability to connect diverse audiences with universal narratives of humanity.”
Kushner, the younger brother of former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, will take on the role as president of Life magazine, according to Variety.
“Life’s legacy lies in its ability to blend culture, current events, and everyday life — highlighting the triumphs, challenges, and unique perspectives that define us,” Josh Kushner said.
Life magazine originally launched in 1883 as a weekly magazine. It was acquired in 1936 by Time magazine founder Henry Luce and shifted to its focus to photographs with famous covers tackling celebrities, politics and news stories.
Life shut down in 1972, but resumed publication in 1978. Time Inc. stopped printing Life as a weekly magazine in 2000 and sold its photo library and archives to Dotdash Meredith, which will retain the full rights to Life’s content dating back to the 1930s.
According to THR, Kloss and Kushner may be eyeing a media empire after their company acquired i-D Magazine from Vice Media last year. Financial details of the deal with Dotdash Meredith were not disclosed.
