Shared on Chayes’ personal Instagram account, Anya’s concept art sees her in her costume, albeit with the black portions of it looking more green and what appear to be white lenses in her mask, and making a pose that looks as though she’s flying, with Chayes stating in the description that costume designer Ngila Dickson wanted the suit to be “bold and graphic.” Ezekiel’s, meanwhile, sees him looking like he’s ready for a fight, while the description for this upload has Chayes avowing, “Plotting out these intricate style lines [on Ezekiel’s suit] was a doozy but very satisfying. Costume designer Ngila Dickson wanted them to evoke a binding effect.”
Madame Web Sees Big Drop at Second Weekend Box Office — But There’s a Bright Side
Madame Web crumbles at the box office with its second weekend revenue, though there’s a small slice of good news for the film.
On the topic of Ezekiel, director S.J. Clarkson revealed that the character originally had a larger backstory, professing, “[Ezekiel’s actor Tahar Rahim and I] had ideas of how we might have flashbacks for him, but I’m like, ‘Hang on, hang on, hang on. We’ve got clairvoyance and he’s got a nightmare, and if I start doing flashbacks, what am I going to do for the flashbacks? This is a whole thing going on.'”
Clarkson went on to add that it felt like “it was going to be a scene of dialogue describing it more” and she felt Rahim was “so strong as an actor, his conviction in the performance and the psychology of his kind of wrestle with Ezekiel and needing to survive,” that such a scene wasn’t needed.

The Lack of Superhero Costumes Has Been Addressed
Shifting the spotlight over to Madame Web itself, Anya’s actor Isabela Merced touched upon the lack of superhero costumes in the project. “When you’re invested enough in the story, it’s like those things don’t really matter,” Merced commented. “You’re just kind of like, what’s best for the story?”
“And I think they did it for a reason, you know?” she went on to add. “This is supposed to be an origin story. It wouldn’t be an origin story if we saw us in like, half the movie with our suits on. I like that it’s a little tease, and I like that it leaves people wanting more.”
Tying into this, Clarkson also discussed why Madame Web didn’t include origin stories for Anya, Julia Cornwall and Mattie Frankilin. The filmmaker declared that she thought it would be “a bit greedy to do four origin stories,” which she further remarked wasn’t really fair.
Madame Web is now playing in movie theaters.
