A passenger has died onboard Royal Caribbean’s nine-month cruise around the world, the company confirmed Tuesday following chatter on social media.
News about a death on the Serenade of the Seas began populating timelines on Sunday after a TikTok user named Adita, who goes by @aditaml2759, took to the platform to share “some sad news.”
“We had our first death on the Ultimate World Cruise,” Adita said in a now-deleted video, according to People. “A lady passed away last night,” she continued, adding she witnessed people “taking the body out” of a room.
On Tuesday, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed to the Daily News that one of its passengers had died.
“A guest sailing onboard Serenade of the Seas has sadly passed away,” the spokesperson said, without providing further details “out of the privacy of the guest and their family.”
“We are actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones at this time,” the spokesperson added.
The cruise giant’s longest-ever voyage began its 274-night, worldwide adventure departing from Miami on Dec. 10.
Its itinerary — which features more than 150 ports of call in 60 countries and seven continents — began with its first leg through the Americas, taking guests to 36 destinations in places including the Caribbean, Brazil, Argentina and the Mexican Riviera.
Its second leg, set to last 88 days, departed from Los Angeles on Sunday and is set to end in Dubai on May 9 after cruising around the Asia-Pacific region.
Guests will then head to 44 destinations in the Middle East and the Mediterranean for 63 nights. For its fourth and final leg, also for 63 nights, they’ll stop by 40 destinations throughout Europe, before returning to Miami in September 2024.
