PADUCAH, KY — The U.S. 45 Ohio River Brookport Bridge has reopened after being closed on Saturday for guardrail and rail damage caused by a weekend crash.
According to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, state crews were able to begin repairs on Monday in order to reopen the bridge for commuters.
The weekend crash caused significant damage to a section of guardrail along the bridge deck and to a deck railing support. The crash also bent a section of the bridge railing so it extended into the roadway.
KYTC says the repair crew was able to work more quickly since engineers found steel inventory that matched the railing in a supply yard. This allowed repairs to begin immediately instead of having to wait several days for the steel to be fabricated.
The bridge reopened at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
