Love and Thunder Concept Art Sees a Less Vibrant Look for Chris Hemsworth

Pieces of concept art from Thor: Love and Thunder see The God of Thunder clad in a less colorful armor than what he wore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Posted onto Instagram by Aleksi Briclot, the images — the latter being a blowup of the first picture — show Thor wearing a gold, white and brown armor while holding Stormbreaker and standing in front of two lightning bolts. The armor in question is much less busy than the suit from Love and Thunder and doesn’t have the helmet, while Thor himself still has short hair instead of long.

“Character design for Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder,” Bricolt commented in the upload’s description. “Keeping [leading man and executive producer Chris Hemsworth’s] likeness and working on a « casual » outfit. Not the big epic and colorful armor in this case. Something with some zen vibes.” He went on to add that he was working from Thor’s armor in Avengers: Endgame and was “also referring [to] the scales on the torso of Captain America.”

Thor: Love and Thunder Might Have Been Too Silly

On the topic of Love and Thunder itself, Hemsworth admitted that he thought the cast and crew “just had too much fun,” and the project “just became too silly.” Hemsworth continued, “It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”

Prior to that, Hemsworth remarked in 2022 that a fifth Thor movie needs a different tone, commenting at the time, “I’ve said this before but when it becomes too familiar, I think there’s a risk in getting lazy then because I know what I’m doing. I don’t know if I’m even invited back, but if I was, I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, everything, just for my own sanity… [laughs] Thor lost his mind that last one. He’s got to figure it out now.” Additionally, Hemsworth noted that he would return to play Thor if Marvel finished his story, avowing that he feels like he and Marvel would “probably have to close the book if [he] ever did it again.”

Circling back to Thor 5, a recent rumor claims that such a project is in the works at Marvel Studios, though plot details are currently scarce. However, tying into this, previous Thor movie director Taika Waititi stated that Hemsworth was in talks to return for it.
