New DC Universe fan art imagines Gotham’s Joker star Cameron Monaghan as The Flash in James Gunn’s upcoming franchise. 2023 is marking the end of the DCEU timeline in order to make room for Gunn and Peter Safran’s brand new DC Universe, which is currently in the works. With several heroes and villains getting reimagined for the big and small screens, there will be plenty of actors to cast for some of the iconic DC roles.
While several confirmed DC Universe movies and TV shows have various heroes lined up, The Flash is still missing from the line-up. For the Scarlet Speedster in Gunn’s DC Universe, JPH_Photoshop shared new artwork where he imagined the Gotham star, Cameron Monaghan as Wally West, who is one of the many heroes to carry The Flash title.
The costume in the art is a modified version of Grant Gustin’s The Flash suit, while donning the headless version of the cowl. Monaghan played Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska on Gotham, who both ended up becoming the show’s version of The Joker, with the latter filling the role in the end.

Why Cameron Monaghan Would Be An Amazing The Flash In James Gunn’s DC Universe
While it is unclear what Gunn is planning to do with The Flash in the DC Universe, Cameron Monaghan would be a perfect fit for the DCU Wally West. Throughout the last couple of years, Monaghan’s body of work has shown his incredible range as an actor, and not just in his role as The Joker on Gotham. Shameless, which was Monaghan’s massive breakout role, features him as Ian Gallagher, a role filled with charisma and humor, even as it tackles complex issues in the character’s life.
Monaghan as Wally would also be refreshing, as the live-action DC world just spent a decade with Barry Allen in the Arrowverse and the DCEU. That is not to say that Gunn’s DC Universe couldn’t have Barry in the legacy, as he is just as crucial to the Flash Family as Wally. Monaghan is also seemingly in the age range that would best fit the DC Universe’s, as the franchise is going with a younger Superman through David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy.
Time will tell if the fastest man alive is part of DCU Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” or if DC Studios may be waiting to use any of the Flashes in Chapter 2 or even further down the line. It wouldn’t be shocking if The Flash is perhaps part of the second half of Chapter 1, and DC Studios is just holding off with announcing it for the time being. Hopefully, Gunn will reveal how The Flash fits into the DC Universe sooner rather than later.
