The Madonna della Rosa painting in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain, was recently analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) software as part of a study.
A new study found that Raphael’s painting is not entirely the owner’s work, according to an AI analysis.
The research was a collaboration between experts from the Universities of Nottingham, Bradford, and Stanford.
Scientists employed artificial intelligence-based deep feature analysis to examine the Madonna della Rosa, aiming to determine the authenticity of different artwork parts, particularly focusing on Joseph’s face within the painting.
Alleged contributors
According to Tech Xplore, experts suggested that Raphael’s pupil Giulio Romano may have contributed his skills to the painting. Speculation proposes another artist painted the rose and lower section. Yet, recent analysis suggests the lower part is probably by Raphael.
