Michigan State just flipped another recruit who will follow former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith to East Lansing.
Andrew Brinson, a 2024 three-star defensive back from Gaither High School in Tampa, Fla., announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media on Sunday evening, following an official visit over the weekend. He was previously committed to Oregon State before backing off that verbal pledge after Smith was hired as Michigan State’s new coach on Nov. 25.
Brinson is the fourth 2024 recruit Smith has landed a commitment from since taking over the Spartans and all four are flips from Oregon State. Three-star running backs Makhi Frazier and Brandon Tullis – both from Texas – and three-star tight end Wyatt Hook from California committed earlier this week.
At 6-foot-0 and 175 pounds, Brinson is listed as the No. 91 athlete and No. 1,015 player overall in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports Composite. He has about two dozen offers, including Wisconsin, Indiana and Utah.
Former coach Mel Tucker was fired for cause in September and that led to seven players decommitting from Michigan State. The 2024 class is now back up to 11 commits with four-star receiver Nick Marsh leading the group.
Smith brought six assistant coaches with him from Oregon State, including secondary coach Blue Adams. Brinson is one of four defensive backs committed to Michigan State’s 2024 class, along with three-stars Jaylen Thompson, Keshawn Williams and Justin Denson.
