The Parkview Kosciusko Hospital, which has been in the works since 2019, hosted an open house for the public showcasing the new building as well as featuring local artists who filled the building with their photography and paintings.
Dozens showing up to come see the new hospital and art created by community members.
Scott Gabriel, the market president for Whitley and Kosciusko counties says he’s heard a need for a hospital in the area, saying the community has had a part in the planning and the future of the property.
“We found it’s a really good way to engage the local community to take ownership in the building, it really is their hospital. So we’ve done this is kind of an opportunity for folks to participate be part of the building process. And now that we’re in completion, an opportunity for them to walk through and, take their pictures by the pictures,” Gabriel said.
The artists who were selected got a special walkthrough before the public was allowed in.
Those artists saying having the chance to show their local work makes this more than just a building.
“I think it’s an outstanding feeling. I mean, it’s, you know, great to be recognized for that. So, again, I’m just proud to be in the community and being involved in the community,” Daniel Holderman said.
Layclan Saylor is a fourteen-year-old photographer who had his work featured for the first time.
Saylor feels honored to be recognized along with other incredible artists.
He told me that him and his mom would photograph the photos now hanging in the hospital and now it’s his photos hanging on the walls.
“It feels great. Just knowing that people are going to get to see and like, actually admire my artwork for once like to see it put up somewhere is nice,” Saylor said.
The Parkview Kosciusko Hospital will officially open its doors to patients on January ninth.
