Tom Welling’s Superman & Smallville Cast Become Batman & Other Gotham City Characters In New DC Art

Smallville star Tom Welling, who starred as Clark Kent/Superman for a decade, and multiple cast members get imagined as Batman and various members of his mythology in new DC fan art. While superhero TV shows are bigger than ever, Smallville came at a time when the genre was still something studios and networks were hesitant to invest in, given the flops at the end of the 1990s. As the show focused on telling the ultimate Superman origin story, Smallville also featured various DC heroes throughout its successful run on The WB and The CW.

Ever since the original ending of Smallville in 2011, the show has only continued to get bigger across the world through streaming and home media release. As fans still share their love for Smallville online, Buffy2Ville imagined what it would look like if Welling and various cast members had instead been tapped to play characters from Batman’s world.

Sadly, the Dark Knight was one of the major DC Comics characters that the show wasn’t able to use, as Smallville never had Clark meet Batman until the season 11 tie-in comic. As such, Buffy2Ville imagined Welling as Batman, as well as the following Smallville actors for these roles:

Will Smallville Ever Get A Sequel Revival Show?

With Smallville being as beloved as it is, it begs the question if the Superman live-action TV show could ever come back in any shape or form. These days, TV revivals and sequels have had their fair share of success, and Smallville would be suited to another round if possible, even if this was only for a limited run. Welling and Durance already reprised their roles in Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, which essentially set up an ideal Smallville offshoot, especially after the multiverse was restored.

A Smallville sequel could focus on Lois and Clark’s lives post-Crisis on Infinite Earths, and perhaps explore a version of their reality where Welling is Superman once again. Even though The CW is getting out of the superhero business, Smallville could be revived on Max and be one of DC Studios’ handful of Elseworlds properties while re-investing into a show with a massive following. A Smallville limited event series would also be something to consider in a few years when the show reaches its 25th anniversary.

Time will tell if Smallville ever gets the chance to shine on the screen again, but given that several actors, including Welling, have expressed interest, it is within the realm of possibility. Despite airing for ten seasons, there are still plenty of stories to tell with Welling’s Superman. For now, the world can relive every season of Smallville on Hulu (in the U.S.) or on Blu-Ray/DVD.
