Another tested favorite tool that I love is this ThermaPro candy thermometer. I used this for a caramel sauce last night — it’s an absolute kitchen essential for me. While a meat thermometer is key to have (our favorite one is on sale, too), a candy thermometer has a different skill. They’re designed to hook onto pots or bowls to gauge the temperature constantly, instead of probing it every so often. This helps keep you on track to reach the exact temperature you need for a recipe, or to maintain the right temperature for tasks like frying.
