STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Boston Market in New Springville was a popular Staten Island eatery for decades.
But the restaurant closed its doors for good at the end of October after the city Marshal’s Office shuttered the premises.
The beloved Boston Market was at 854 Arthur Kill Rd., in the Greenridge Plaza shopping area, which has also seen other stores close in recent years.
Boston Market’s corporate parent has been involved in a number of lawsuits involving workers, vendors and landlords, the Advance has reported.
A Boston Market location on Forest Avenue in Port Richmond remains open, but employees there have faced difficulties, including skipped pay cycles, erratic store hours and a slowly dwindling staff.
Based on employee reports, the formal punch-in/punch-out process had been abandoned in recent months and workers started receiving hand-written checks in September, a situation one former staffer considered “highly unprofessional.”
At one point, the Forest Avenue restaurant couldn’t take credit cards, and soda fountain machines were marked “out of order” as syrup wasn’t delivered.
