Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan, who plays Killmonger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, gets imagined as an iconic Green Lantern in Lanterns through new DC Universe fan art. As the era of DCEU movies is coming to an end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, DC Studios is working hard to get a brand new continuity set up through Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. While it will start on the small screen through Creature Commandos on Max, the adventures on the big screen will begin through Superman: Legacy, which Gunn will direct next year.
However, Gunn’s Superman: Legacy movie is just one of many DC Universe heroes that are coming to life. For the role of John Stewart, Vιƈƚσɾ Bαƚιʂƚα shared artwork of what Jordan would look like as one of the most famous Green Lanterns in Gunn’s DC Universe.
While Jordan is best known to the comic book audience as Killmonger in the MCU, the actor was potentially going to star and executive produce his own Superman live-action TV show for Max. Using the multiverse concept, the Val-Zod series was going to focus on the Man of Steel from Earth-2, but at this point, it is unclear if the show is even going to go forward.
Everything We Know About Green Lantern In James Gunn’s DC Universe
Despite the DC Universe not having kicked off yet, the Green Lanterns are already confirmed to show up in Gunn’s franchise. Superman: Legacy will be the first DC Universe property to feature Guy Gardner, who is one of the many famous Green Lanterns. Nathan Fillion, who has voiced Hal Jordan in multiple DC animated projects and played Cory Pitzner, a.k.a. The Detachable Kid in the DCEU movie The Suicide Squad, is reuniting with Gunn on Superman: Legacy, and will be playing Guy for the new continuity.
While a Green Lantern movie may not be in the works at this point, a TV show is in development for Max as part of Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters.” Max and DC Studios are currently working on Lanterns, which will reportedly center on John and Hal Jordan, with a big True Detectives inspiration for the streaming show. Even though there is no casting yet for either role, Lanterns will focus on Hal and Jordan as protectors of precinct Earth and explore an overall story about “an ancient horror” that will weave across TV and film.
Before Lanterns, Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti was set to have a Green Lantern TV show on HBO Max that went through two major overhauls.
Since the SAG-AFTRA strike is finally over, that means Lanterns can properly move forward, which includes getting the casting search started in the coming months. With the Writers Guild of America strike also concluded, there will likely be some news regarding who is actually writing for Lanterns impending in the franchise’s future. Hopefully, DC Universe news on Lanterns will be coming sooner rather than later.
