Last Thursday, the Executive Branch submitted a bill to Congress so that the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte can be authorized to leave the national territory from November 1 to 4, 2023, to travel to the city of Washington, D.C., and the State of Maryland in the United States.
According to the bill, the dignitary is also expected to participate in side events with representatives of the U.S. Congress, Department of the Treasury, and Chamber of Commerce, which are set to take place on November 2 and 3.
The request for authorization of the presidential trip is made pursuant to the provisions of subparagraph 9 of Article 102 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Article 8-A of the Law No. 29158 (Organic Law of the Executive Branch) introduced by virtue of Law No. 31810, regarding the entrusting of the presidential office and its management through digital technologies.
According to the document, the agenda will start with the participation of the Head of State in the opening segment of the “APEP-IDB Responsible Investment Forum,” in which she will present the goals pursued by Peru within the framework of APEP, based on the national priorities, the promotion of regional economic integration, and development financing.
On the same day, Peru’s top official will attend a reception with representatives of the U.S. Congress to discuss the support of the U.S. government for other countries in the region, through various initiatives such as APEP.
After that, a meeting with representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be put in place.
The agenda for Friday, November 3, includes meetings with APEP leaders at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the White House to discuss the creation of high quality employment, the strengthening of economic ties in the Americas, and the attraction of responsible investment.
“Additionally, the trip of the President of the Republic will allow scheduling bilateral meetings on issues of common interest with other Heads of State or Government from member countries of the APEP initiative,” the bill reads.
