GDP: The US will release its preliminary estimate for third-quarter gross domestic product, with economists expecting the world’s largest economy to have expanded by 4.3 per cent, accelerating from the previous quarter’s 2.1 per cent growth.
Amazon: The ecommerce giant is anticipated to post an annual revenue increase of more than 11 per cent to $141.4bn in the July to September period, as consumers continued to spend on its platform and demand for its cloud services remained strong.
Other earnings: Merck, Bristol Myers Squibb, UPS, Northrop Grumman, Honeywell, Altria, Hershey, Mastercard and Royal Caribbean report earnings before the opening bell. Intel, Chipotle and Ford report after the market closes.
Other US economic data: New orders for durable goods, those lasting more than one year, are forecast to have risen by 1.7 per cent in September, up from a 0.1 per cent August increase. Separately, initial US jobless claims, a proxy for lay-offs, are projected to have increased by 10,000 to 208,000 last week.
SEC: US Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler will speak on climate disclosure rules at the US Chamber of Commerce.
