The Kenya Kwanza government will next week make public the names of suspects behind the terror attacks in Lamu County.
Making the announcement on Sunday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said that the government has identified the ringleaders and planners of the atrocities in Lamu County using religion and historical grievances as an excuse to kill and maim innocent citizens.
“This week, we will publish a list of suspects, and they must surrender at the nearest police station,” he said.
The CS vowed that the culprits will face the law as his ministry is set to pursue and neutralize all these criminals.
Kindiki emphasized that there is a direct connection between economic revival and security and his ministry will make Kenya a safe country and secure place for local and international investors.
“The Constitution of Kenya recognises and respects our collective culture. However, we will not allow criminals to use culture to brutalize people and mislead them through retrogressive activities,” the CS added.
Kindiki had earlier given terrorists and criminal gangs three options as the government affirms its fight against terrorism.
The CS said that the government will not relent in its plans to fight terrorism.
“Kama rais alisema mambo ni matatu, ata mimi naambia magaidi mambo ni matatu. Wawachane na ugaidi, wahame Kenya warudi kwao ama tutawasafirisha safari ya one way.”
“Na si safiri ya kwenda na gari, ni ya kwenda hadi wafikie jehanamu,” Kindiki said.
This loosely translates to: “Just like our President said, the options are three. I also say the options are three for the terrorists. They either stop terrorism, they relocate from Kenya and go home or we will send them to hell”.
Going further, Kindiki laid out plans for how the government will deal with terrorism and violent extremism.
He announced that there would be deployment of special forces and elite units in Northern Kenya and Upper Coastal regions, including Tana River and Lamu Counties.
They are subjected to deal ruthlessly and neutralize armed criminals who are terrorizing innocent citizens.
