You can stand in line as many times as you want on Free Cone Day
After a four-year hiatus, Ben & Jerry’s is bringing back Free Cone Day.
The decadeslong tradition is set to be in full swing April 3 between noon and 8 p.m. at nationwide Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops. Customers can also stand in line as many times as they please and choose any Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor during their visit.
Janna Kaufman, a franchise owner of three Bay Area stores, told SFGATE that she was thrilled to welcome customers back for the event at her Fisherman’s Wharf locations at Pier 41 and 475 Jefferson St., as well as her Berkeley shop at 2130 Center St.
“Local fans know that we’ve been participating in Free Cone Day for over 30 years, as our family has been in the San Francisco Bay Area Ben & Jerry’s business since 1991,” Kaufman said.
Kaufman said that the company made the difficult decision to pause Free Cone Day at the start of the pandemic in 2020 to prevent large group gatherings. The last time Ben & Jerry’s stores hosted Free Cone Day was in 2019.
The decadeslong tradition began in 1979 at the Ben & Jerry’s storefront in Burlington, Vermont. By 1993, nationwide stores collectively joined Free Scoop Day. Ben & Jerry’s also has stores at 1480 Haight St. in San Francisco, 505 Embarcadero West in Oakland, and 1136 Main St. in Napa.
Tip: Customers should confirm that local Ben & Jerry’s franchise stores are participating in Free Cone Day before their visit.
