Fashion fans turn FREE tote from French brand Sezane into the latest must-have accessory

• The French brand, founded in 2013, offers the canvas carrier with each purchase
• But the totes have become so sort after that they are being sold online for profit
• And buyers have been paying anywhere up to $125 to get their hands on one

Have you been wondering what the must-have item is this fall? Well, the answer might surprise you.

Because it seems that the accessories currently taking the fashion world by storm are in fact Sézane’s free tote bags.

The French brand, founded by Morgane Sézalory in 2013, offers the canvas carrier with every purchase.

But the bags have since become so sort after that they are being sold online for considerable profit with prices anywhere up to $125.

Sézane began as an e-commerce enterprise before eventually establishing physical stores. 

As she was building her brand, Sézalory was keen to implement the free tote initiative from the very beginning in a bid to give each customer a memento.  

Speaking about the decision, she told Elle: ‘I was thinking, okay, Paris is small, so if you have something that is very visual, and all the girls have it… if you don’t know the brand and you see someone wearing something very cool a few times in the same week, at some point you’re going to think: what is that?

‘And then you look and you end up on the website.’

It seems Sézalory was right as furor continues to grow around the accessory more than a decade later.

In recent weeks, desperate buyers have been flocking to resale sites in a bid to land one of the free tote bags – particularly those that are part of a special collaboration.

There are currently dozens of listings on Poshmark – and other sites – demanding wildly high prices.

Among them is a ‘rare Sezane x Farm Rio tote bag’ which was originally listed for $150, a jungle print carrier for $125 and a floral print version for $100.

Additionally, there are a handful of dedicated Facebook groups popping up for fans of the brand.

One such page, titled Sézane Addicts USA-Canada, comprises of more than 8,000 users and claims ‘to promote and help, sales, exchanges’ in its aim to ‘facilitate access to our favorite brand!’

The brand releases new tote designs seasonally – and will also celebrate any new collaboration with the launch of a new bag, usually featuring an illustration or print by the other brand.  

Addressing the continued furor around the unassuming accessory, Sézalory told the publication that although she spots the totes around Paris all the time, she does not ‘internalize it.’

Her own collection has also been repurposed recently after welcoming her third child.

She said: ‘The quality of [the bags] is great. I put my diapers in it — my Sézane tote is my baby bag.’
