The sequel to the acclaimed animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey in a new multiverse-hopping adventure. While the first movie brought heroes from across the multiverse to Miles’ world, the sequel sees Miles explore other universes. After Gwen’s father learns her secret identity, she flees from her world, seeking solace and mentorship from other Spider heroes to help protect the multiverse.
When a threat is traced to Miles’ world, she visits her friend, who has missed the heroes he bonded with, especially Gwen. When she loses the target, Miles secretly follows Gwen into another universe, trying to help her on her mission and earn a place among the multiverse protectors. However, when he learns a terrible truth about his future and feels betrayed by those he trusted most, Gwen and Peter B. Parker, Miles will do whatever it takes to return home.
More About Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
In Screen Rant’s exclusive Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse clip, Art Director Dean Gordon breaks down the inspiration for Gwen Stacy’s world, citing her comic books. He also explains that in her world, Earth-65, the primary colors, cyan, orange, and violet, are different from those in our world, yellow, red, and blue, which instantly differentiates her world visually on the most basic level. Visual Effects Supervisor Mike Lasker describes the world as wet and brushy with dripping paint.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse explores a number of universes beyond what the first movie offered. Where Into The Spider-Verse brought heroes and their visual signatures into Miles’ world, the sequel shows the difference between worlds, with Gwen’s own being a perfect example with different primary colors and a more watercolor-inspired art style. Seeing how these characters blend together even in worlds so vastly different from their own is one of the most impressive elements of the movie’s animation.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay penned by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac. The movie has a runtime of 140 minutes and is rated PG.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is available now on Digital and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 5.
