STAMFORD, CT — During spring school vacation week, April 3-7, the Stamford-based nonprofit SoundWaters will host its annual Science Stars program, a week-long introduction to science for Stamford Public Schools students in grades 2- 5. The program, which has been exclusive to girls for the past 15 years, will include a separate location for boys this year as well.
The Science Stars program offers grade schoolers a week of hands-on scientific exploration, with outdoor and indoor activities including beach cleanup, interaction with live animals, specimen collection, lab experiments, and engineering challenges. The schedule is designed to cultivate students’ curiosity and creativity and help them begin to understand the impact of a rapidly changing climate on our local environment. Visits from women and men working as STEM professionals will also help students to see the possibilities in science as a career.
