EIGHT wins in a row for the Cubs, their longest streak in seven years.
In preparation for the 42-hour Blogathon, which starts tomorrow morning at 5am CT, I had to get really good sleep last night. No apologies here. Just a health and safety thing. So that is to say, I missed everything in last night’s rain-delayed game after the second inning.
I did watch the highlights of the Cubs’ win this morning, with Ian Happ continuing to be Adam Wainwright’s daddy, Yan Gomes going deep in the Mike Tauchman spot, and Nick Madrigal returning with a couple hits and his surprisingly good defense at third base.
I loved that Jameson Taillon made it through six allowing just that one first inning run, when things looked like they could get a whole lot worse, but I also know he was kinda navigating in and out of trouble for much of the evening. But, hey, sometimes you’re going to get the good batted ball results in tight spots – he hadn’t been all year. He was owed it or something.
Interesting that Javier Assad got pulled into a high-leverage dirty inning for a short set-up appearance. That has very much not been his role, and it might’ve just been an availability thing. But interesting all the same.
Full box score.
