CASPER, Wyo. — The recent effort to fill downtown Casper with color has reached Occasions By Cory on South Wolcott Street, as local artists Bri Martin and Cassie Murphy are contributing to the recent trend of adding murals throughout the area.
The mural — a colorful, impressionistic depiction of a mountain range — has been in the planning stages for roughly three years, Martin said. With the launch of the Casper Mural Project, the artists decided now was the perfect time to pull the trigger.
“The Casper Mural Project is what made us decide to finally get to work, because [project co-founder Elliot Ramage] basically said, ‘What do I need to do to get something on that wall,’” Martin said with a chuckle.
Martin said the mural is inspired in part by paintings such as Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” She also thinks her visual style will complement another mural across the street
“My style is this very colorful and abstract stuff,” she said. “It isn’t supposed to be any specific mountain range, but it’s just supposed to be evocative of Wyoming and the big sky.”
Martin and Murphy said they plan on working on the mural on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and they have plans to start another mural at Wind City Books in the coming weeks. The goal, Martin said, is for the Occasions by Cory mural to be completed sometime in August.
