Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman continued his flurry of free-agent signings on Saturday by inking defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to a one-year deal for $4.125 million.
The move gives the team a left-shooting point man on one of its power-play units.
Gostisbehere, 30, split last season between Arizona and Carolina, collecting 13 goals and 41 points. He had no goals and three assists in 15 playoff games with the Hurricanes.
The Red Wings defense now features left shooters Jake Walman, Olli Maatta, Ben Chiarot, Gostisbehere and 2021 top pick Simon Edvinsson, who will be competing for a roster spot, and right shooters Moritz Seider, Justin Holl and Gustav Lidstrom.
Gostisbehere (5-11, 180) has appeared in 538 games with Philadelphia, Arizona and Carolina, picking up 87 goals and 311 points. He has 34 goals and 106 points on the power play.
