It’s finally Taylor Swift week in Tampa Bay, and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor wants to make it official.
Ahead of Swift’s three Raymond James Stadium shows, the city of Tampa posted a video on its social media pages today offering the singer a special honor.
“We know Glendale changed its name, Arlington made a street sign and Vegas illuminated their Gateway Arches,” Castor said in the video. “But here in Tampa, we’ve got a reputation to uphold. We want to go bigger.”
Castor went on to present a key to the city and invite the singer to reign as Tampa’s honorary mayor for a day.
“Mayor Swift has a nice ring to it,” Castor said. “We can’t wait to welcome you and your fans to Tampa (Taylor’s version).”
“The Swifties at City Hall are so excited to welcome Taylor and her fans,” said Angela Ramirez, a spokesperson for the city, in an email. “Old City Hall, the Riverwalk, and downtown bridges will be illuminated red on April 13th from sundown to sunrise. We are also asking fans to tag Taylor on social media to help invite her to be ‘Mayor Swift.’”
No word on a response from Swift yet, but we know under her reign she’d make the whole city shimmer.
