Styling Nobull Sneakers: 6 Ways to Wear These Pastel Shoes

It’s time for our next iteration of Sneaker Styling! This is a little series that picks a really dreamy sneaker – something colorful, something pretty, or something bold – a sneaker that is basically a joy to look at, but maybe a little tricky to style. A sneaker we often add to cart, but don’t always buy, because, confused. Once we’ve picked a sneaker to focus on, we do our paper dolls thing and create outfits. Obviously some of the outfits will be for working out, but we also want to come up with ways to wear these sneakers beyond the gym/running path/yoga studio/whatever.

Last time, we styled up a pair of On Cloudnovas in lavender, but this time, I’ve had my eye on Nobull’s Journey running shoes. I love the chic monochromatic look (so, so good), and the color range is a total dream. I had a really hard time choosing which color to focus on, but in the end, I went with…pastel yellow. Sooooooo pretty.

While Nobull does have some Journeys with the traditional white sole, I’m obsessed with their line of monochromatic Journeys. In addition to a few pastel colors (yellow being my favorite), there’s also a really pretty gray-green (‘balsam’), as well as a few brights, too.

In terms of the yellow sneakers, I created outfits for running, working out in general, running errands (read: sweatpants), and some actual, honest-to-goodness real outfits with jeans, cargo pants and dresses.

Let’s get into it.

1. For Running (Whites & Brights)

Since these are actual running shoes, I wanted to start with the most obvious activity: running. I also wanted to come up with a cute running outfit I’d happily wear in Philly once the weather gets hot. I love the pastel yellow with white and other soft brights. This is a pretty darn cheerful running look.

NOTES: Oddly enough, those Free People running shorts are my absolute favorites (I currently have them in black). They’re impossibly lightweight, super cute on, and don’t ride up. I’ve become a pretty big Bombas fan, too, and am excited to try their athletic socks. Lastly, am making a mental note that a white cotton baseball hat makes a lot of sense for running in the summer.

2. Cute & Comfy Workout Outfits

While I probably would wear pastel yellow sneakers with an all-black outfit (which make up 80% of my workout clothes, ngl), I wanted to see what other colors worked with pastel yellow. It turns out that anything that has a hint of gray looks great: even a steely blue, and army green (more cool-toned than warm) totally work.

NOTES: That white sweatshirt-looking-thing is actually a rain jacket and now I want it. Oh geez – it looks like the steel blue shorts are sold out, but the color is ‘cloud’ and has a few other options, if interested.

3. For Lounging Around (Or Running Errands)

I LOVE how these pastel Nobull sneakers look with gray. It keeps the vibe simple and casual, but a little interesting, too. Once you’ve got the gray + yellow thing going on, you can really add in any accent color (or not). I was feeling the green.

NOTES: This whole outfit is filled with some of my favs! I have this exact GAP sweatsuit and it’s great. I wear mine constantly. I also adore this Lole rain jacket (mine was well-tested through the pouring rain while hiking in Ecuador), those socks are some of my favs (they keep selling out gahhh) and that Free People bag is just so darn useful. I have it in off white, but am wondering if a colorful one would add a nice pop of color this spring/summer.

4. For Going Out: Everyday

I really love how these yellow Nobull sneakers pair with khaki pants & cargos. While I’m featuring green cargo pants here, almost any khaki pants (even the ones I fondly refer to as Engineer-Taupe) would work. And since these pants read more substantial, they act as a bridge for bright tops.

NOTES: If I didn’t already own this bright blue graphic tee, that Farm Rio one would be in my cart. I don’t know why a bright blue tee has become such a wardrobe workhorse, but I make no apologies for it. (Looks suuuuper cute with light wash denim, too.)

5. For Going Out: Kinda Fancy

I think one of the reasons I was so excited about the pastel yellow is because I kept envisioning them with light-wash denim. It’s soooo good. So good, in fact, that I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit neutral.

NOTES: That peplum bustier top and the jeans are both from J.Crew, which means they’re available in plus sizes, too. Gahhhh J.Crew is nailing it lately. I also wear light & floaty tops (like the white one, above) allllllll summer long. A staple, for sure.

6. With A Sporty Dress

Ok! After lots of paper dolling, I’ve figured out a dress situation. While many dresses look weird with such athletic sneakers, dresses with a bit of a sporty vibe totally work – even stripes!. And I’m especially loving any and all shades of taupe with these sneakers.

NOTES: Linzi has the larger version of that little taupe bag – I love that it reads like a straw bag, but is much more durable. This brand – women-founded and owned – makes handwoven bags from neoprene in an ethical, sustainable way. You can see their whole line, here. And oooo – there’s some new ones. I really like the shape of this one.

What sneaker should we do next??
