CAMPTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Parents are concerned after they say their children were forced to eat ice cream mixed with cleaning solution. They claim this happened at work.
“Oh, I was livid. I was livid,” said parent, Angela Patton.
Angela Patton says on Friday night, her 17-year-old daughter was called into work at the Campton Dairy Queen for a mandatory meeting. In the meeting, her daughter claims employees were told to eat ice cream that had been contaminated with cleaning solution.
“They were told by the manager that whether or not they liked chocolate ice cream, they were going to eat it today,” said Patton.
Patton says following the incident, some of the employees had to be taken to the emergency room for treatment.
“Some of the kids had complained that they had a burning sensation when they swallowed the ice cream,” said Patton.
Patton says about eight employees were involved, many of whom were minors. Some of them, including her daughter, quit due to the incident.
Now, the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office says they’re investigating the situation.
“We still have multiple people coming in to give statements, but as of now, it’s still under investigation,” said Deputy Elijah Banks with the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Banks says because there are juveniles involved, he’s limited on what he can say about the situation. They’re working with the county attorney to determine what action to take in this case.
While no charges have been filed at this time, Patton says she hopes to see that change soon.
“I do have a meeting scheduled with a lawyer. What they’ve done is not right,” said Patton.
WKYT has reached out to the Campton Dairy Queen location about these claims. All they would say is that they have no comment.
