Popular dessert bar in Upstate NY closes shop, plans to take things on the road

A dessert spot in Upstate New York that served up bowls of nostalgia is now just a memory, as the restaurant has closed its doors.

The Cereal Spot on Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo, New York has decided to close down its store in an announcement they posted to Facebook this month. The business first opened in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic and flourished, quickly expanding into a new location just three years after they launched.

The team’s message read that while their brick-and-mortar has closed, The Cereal Spot plans to add a second food truck to their fleet to be able to be more versatile and added mysteriously, “to bring something to Buffalo that has never been done before.”

The post ended with the assurance that this isn’t a goodbye of the brand and their signature phrase that hung over their doorway: “See you spoon.”

The popular Western NY eatery served guests over 200 different cereals, spanning the globe and decades, harkening back to the days of Saturday morning cartoons and a bowl of your favorite. A colorful mural of your favorite childhood cereal characters adorned the wall and the tables were wrapped with the box covers of some of the most iconic flavors like Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes and Cheerios.

Orders ranged from the “plain Jane” of one cereal and one choice of milk in a bowl to build-your-own masterpieces with multiple cereals, candy or fruit toppings, and several types of milk.

Their signature cereal tacos were seen on A&E Network’s “Best in Chow” Buffalo episode, a competition show that included six Buffalo restaurants, including late-night joint, Mister Sizzle.

The Cereal Spot rounded out their sweet menu with mason jar sundaes and milkshakes.

Questions about the food trucks or gift certificates are to be directed to [email protected].
