The Lanterns TV show gets its Hal Jordan and John Stewart through new DC Universe fan art. One of the many projects that are coming out of Gunn’s DC Universe is the Lanterns TV show, which will focus on Hal and John’s shared adventure as part of Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters.” While it was announced over a year ago, Lanterns is still in development, although no casting has begun yet for the Max drama.
For the time being, Max has not announced a window release date for when they expect the Lanterns TV show to premiere on the streaming service. While the DC Universe audience waits for the series, Solo Authority shared new Lanterns artwork with their own suggestions for who should play Hal and John in the franchise.
In Solo Authority’s Lanterns artwork, the artist pitched Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes and Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich as John and Hal, respectively. While he may not be joining the DC Universe anytime soon, Ehrenreich has a mystery role in the Ironheart TV show as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.

While Hal Jordan and John Stewart have been confirmed for the DCU’s upcoming Lanterns series, other Green Lanterns from Earth could debut as well.
What We Know About The Lanterns TV Show
Lanterns, which will take some inspiration from True Detective in terms of tone, will focus on Hal and John as the Green Lanterns for Earth. According to Gunn, Lanterns will be a detective mystery that focuses on “an ancient horror,” although it is unclear what threat is supposed to be in Lanterns. However, Gunn has also promised that whoever or whatever this ancient threat is, the story of Lanterns will be weaving between other DC Universe films and series.
While a Lanterns creative team hasn’t been announced yet, information will likely come soon. Even though it hasn’t been announced if he will be back for Lanterns, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who will appear in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, could potentially show up in the series, given his ties to the Green Lantern Corps. It’s possible Lanterns will be one of the other DC Universe projects to go into production this year, as Gunn has indicated that other Chapter 1 movies/TV shows will start filming in 2024.

Even though there haven’t been a lot of Lanterns updates lately, it’s still exciting to see that Gunn is finally making the Green Lanterns a priority for the new DC Universe. Given how they were essentially excluded from the DCEU, DC Studios is making up for a lost opportunity, as the Emerald Knights’ story belongs in the world of live-action. Hopefully, Gunn will have more news to announce for Lanterns later this year to get the DC Universe audience ready for Hal and John’s exciting adventure.
