The “Israeli” War Cabinet approved Monday the entry of humanitarian aid trucks to northern Gaza Strip directly from “Israeli” territory for the first time, as reported by Hebrew Channel 12.
The decision was made under American pressure, and also to prevent aid from being “looted” by Hamas, as claimed by the War Cabinet.
Aid will undergo security inspection by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) at the Kerem Shalom or Nitzana border crossings.
It will be distributed in the Zaytoun neighborhood for starters, and a decision will later be made to expand to other areas based on the Israeli Occupation’s assessments.
Zaytoun neighborhood was picked as a location due to the heavy presence of IOF soldiers in the area, in which they will be able to control the distribution of aid.
Earlier, Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), had confirmed that the agency had been unable to bring in aid for over a month – adding that the last delivery of aid was made on Jan. 23.
Lazzarini added that UNRWA’s calls to send relief aid to the people in northern Gaza were met with refusal, suggesting that famine could still be averted in the Gaza Strip if genuine political will were available, per his description.
