Awi Sushi, a Colorado-based sushi chain, is making its Milwaukee debut on Water Street in the spot of the former Angry Taco, which closed in 2020.
A restaurant application was filed with the city of Milwaukee Friday for the space at 755 N. Water St., and the Awi Sushi website said a Milwaukee location is coming soon at that address.
Awi Sushi is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where it has two locations. It also has a spot in Madison, at 511 State St.
The to-go and dine-in restaurant serves more than 70 sushi rolls with flavors like the Shark Attack, with tuna cucumber, avocado and special sauce, with a sweet and crunchy topping; the Rock n Roll with spicy tuna, crab meat, white fish and avocado, with sweet white sauce; and Dragon Special with spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, cucumber, baked eel, avocado and spicy mayo, with a sweet and crunchy topping.
It also has rice bowls, soups, salads and appetizers.
Cheraty Par is the agent on the restaurant application and didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.
