Move over, Barbie — Gwendoline Christie is the new doll in town.
The Game of Thrones star closed out Maison Margiela’s spring/summer 2024 show at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday with an eye-popping transformation. From head to toe, the actress appeared to have turned into a life-size porcelain doll.
Christie’s outfit consisted of white opera gloves, tights, and shoes, plus a clear rubber dress over a striped blue corset. Meanwhile, she donned a curly blonde wig fit for a doll, with makeup to match. Acclaimed makeup artist Pat McGrath did the toy-like looks Christie and the other models wore, which McGrath described as “SURREAL SKIN MEETS MOONLIGHT MUSES” in a behind-the-scenes video posted to Instagram.
McGrath’s post showed a closer look at Christie’s transformation, which included a glazed coating to give the face an overall porcelain glass effect, blue eyeshadow, bright colors on the cheeks, pencil-thin brows, and pursed lips.
Christie shared her enthusiasm for the look in the comments, writing, “MOTHER THANK YOU FOR BEING INCREDIBLE!”
The Star Wars actress made her runway debut in 2015 for Vivienne Westwood, but she told System magazine that this collaboration with Margiela was particularly special to her. “I can’t tell you how meaningful this is for me, because I’ve loved fashion for such a long time and for over 30 years I’ve wanted to be in a show like this,” she told the outlet in a video shared to Instagram.
