Sri Lanka cabinet gives ok to sign Thailand FTA

ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange remained in green on Friday, after weeks of being on a downward trajectory, data on its site showed.

The All Share Price Index was up 0.60 percent, or 61.40 points, at 10,335.

The S&P SL20 index was up 0.88 percent, or 25.61 points, at 2,929.

Turnover was at 798 million. Trading in John Keells Holdings Plc contributing the most (200mn) to the day’s turnover, and the share closed down at 181.50. Market participants said foreign buying in the stock continued.

Other companies that saw buying interest were Sampath Bank Plc (up at 68.10), Melstacorp Plc (up at 81.80) and Royal Ceramics Lanka Plc (up at 27.00).

The banks industry (187mn) and diversified financials (150mn) saw some positive interest after weeks of continued selling pressure in the sectors in general.

However, the net foreign outflow seen since the beginning of this year continued, with today registering an outflow of 200 million. (Colombo/Jan26/2024).
