FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum is siding with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in an escalating dispute with the Biden Administration involving the border with Mexico.
“As the Biden administration fails miserably to secure the southern border, Americans and our communities are paying the price,” Burgum said in a statement on social media. “@GregAbbott_TX deserves our thanks for taking action to stop illegal crossings and disrupt drug and human trafficking. North Dakota stands with Texas.”
“The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States,” Abbott said. “The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting states, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them.”
The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Border Patrol agents to resume cutting razor wire that Texas installed along a stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border that is at the center of an escalating standoff between the Biden administration and the state over immigration enforcement.
The Supreme Court’s directive does not prohibit Texas from installing new razor wire.
