The Aerosoft A330 for Microsoft Flight Simulator has had a turbulent development cycle to say the least. Originally announced as one of the first products for Microsoft Flight Simulator, it was intended on providing simmers with a simulation of the Airbus aircraft.
We saw plenty of development updates over the years, a new project manager, and even a trailer (with a targeted Summer 2023 release). We even managed to get hands-on with it during FlightSimExpo 2023. However, it has been confirmed that the aircraft will now be released “around the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.”
This is a highly surprising development considering outside of some very basic bits of information, not much is known about the upcoming flight simulator. Whilst we know that add-ons developed for the current version of the simulator will most likely work for the new platform, it is unclear if much work will be required of developers to bring it to the platform.
As the team evaluated the status of the project, they came to the conclusion it made most sense to launch alongside the new simulator. Along with taking advantage of the new technology found in the simulator, the team also confirmed that both the CEO and NEO variants of the A330 will be released simultaneously.
No further information was provided by Aerosoft, nor is it likely we will learn much more now until Microsoft showcase the new flight simulator, which is due to release later this year. Once we learn anything new, we will be sure to keep you informed.
