Dior Artistic Director Kim Jones presented his Winter 2024 menswear collection on 19 January 2024. Here’s what went down.
For Dior Men’s Winter 2024, Kim Jones added theatrics to reality and vice versa. Haute couture and ready-to-wear come together in a showcase of lavishness and utility, inspired by Rudolf Nureyev, the dance partner of ballet dancer Margot Fonteyn. In Jones’ words: “The collection, or rather collections, are about contrast: the contrast in the House of Dior in terms of Ready-To-Wear and Haute Couture. It’s the difference between onstage and backstage; the life of Nureyev theatrically and in reality”.
The Dior Men‘s Winter 2024 ensemble highlights the coming together of the Dior archive with the style of a dancer. On the runway, models appeared wearing pieces drenched in discipline and excellence. Tailored fits are imbued with pleats and volumes. On the other hand, you can also spot creations with a fluid bar waist curve and extended double-breasted wrap; an amalgamation of the Oblique of Jones and the Bar of Monsieur Dior himself.
Fabrics come in all types, alluding to the straightforwardness of the sixties and seventies — from decadent leathers, ribbed knits, zipped wool and wool melange. For Dior Men’s Winter 2024, the Mary-Jane sneakers are fitted with silk-polyester and San Crispino leather for contrast whereas bags included Bum Bags and the oversized Grained Camera Bag.
There’s a sense of refined playfulness throughout the Dior Men’s Winter 2024 collection. Elegant and sleek yet so full of pleasure and life, the ensemble is illustrates Artistic Director Kim Jones’ very own mindset in design. Creative, functional and boundless, this was such an eye-catching show to start the year. A personal favourite: the use of colourful socks (from green to red) to highlight the utilisation of flared shorts in various styles.
