Every single time you see a photo of Robert Downey Jr, he’s either wearing an impeccably-tailored suit or something kinda mad and freaky (meant in the best possible way). But yesterday, he made a silent declaration of his new menswear stance. Robert Downey Jr is a sneakerhead.
Arriving at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! set in Los Angeles, Downey Jr waved hello to fans, signed a few autographs, and flashed some peace signs to the cameras. But for a guy that loves a wild suit, his civvies were just as noisy. With a canvas bucket hat (in green), a T-shirt (in green as well), and a camo-coloured windbreaker (yes, also in green), it was military fluoro fatigues for what has become the de facto tunnel walk for all famous guys on the late night TV circuit.
But what really got everyone gassed up were the things on his feet. When Downey Jr wears trainers, he usually goes for pairs from luxury houses. He likes Celine. He likes Givenchy. He also likes Marc Jacobs. However, yesterday he rocked up in the Air Jordan 4 ‘Thunder,’ which is regarded by many sneakerheads as one of the greatest Air Jordans of all-time.
First released back in 2006, the ‘Thunder’ made a comeback last summer in its original form. With an all-black nubuck upper, it’s contrasted by electric hits of yellow throughout. Mesh panelling features across the lateral and medial sidewalls, and the sole is infused with Nike’s critically-acclaimed Air cushioning system, just like the OG from ’06. This colourway was outrageously popular – judging by the fact that they literally sold out in mere seconds.
Robert Downey Jr is officially a Jumpman fan, and just like that, prices on StockX may skyrocket.
