MSI has teased its plans to enter the handheld gaming console market with an upcoming “Dragon” themed design which will be unveiled at CES.
MSI Teases Plans To Enter The Handheld Market With Premium Gaming Console Centered Around Its “Dragon” Theme
Update: It looks like we have a better look now at the MSI Handheld gaming console thanks to the latest picture posted by @wxnod. Also, based on a reply from Intel Gaming, it looks like MSI might leverage Intel’s Meteor Lake CPUs to power its console. The specifications and configurations are still yet to be unveiled.
The teaser is very brief and gives us a few hints at what this upcoming handheld gaming console from MSI is going to be like. The short video starts with the front of the device which shows a design resembling the ASUS ROG Ally and Steam Deck OLED. The dual triggers are lit up by RGB-LEDs which is a nice touch in terms of aesthetics.
MSI also seems to be focusing a lot on the exhaust vents which might highlight the cooling and thermal capabilities of this device. A tag reading “True Gaming” is featured and we see a lot of these dual black/red tone mesh grills on the back of the product. A large MSI “Dragon” logo can also be seen which might also come with RGB LED illumination.
It is a bit too early to say whether MSI would go with AMD Ryzen or Intel Core Ultra CPUs to power its handheld gaming console.
AMD Ryzen CPUs are the popular choice but Intel Core Ultra is also gaining traction in the handheld gaming segment. Both CPUs offer very decent integrated graphics capabilities that rival each other and each has its own unique set of features with good support for upscaling technologies such as FSR and XeSS.
The device is expected to be fully unveiled at CES 2024 so we will know for sure what’s under the hood of this device, when it will be available and most importantly, at what price, in a few days.
