I have a fashion alert for you, Gurls. The half-tuck is no longer in style! Neither is the full tuck or the front tuck. What’s that leave? Oh, yeah – the untucked shirt! Luckily, I’m here to help you rock this trend. I’m sharing some fantastic button-down shirts for women over 50! The only real way you can go wrong with an untucked shirt is to wear it too long so that it looks like a dress. These all will hit at a reasonable length, even for my petite gurls.
Before we go any further, I want to remind everyone that just because something is trending doesn’t mean YOU have to wear it. If you work in a professional office, wearing your shirt untucked might be frowned on. There is also a matter of the length of the shirt. Some might be so long they make your legs look shorter, which isn’t a look most of us want. You’ll still see me doing a front tuck, especially when there are details of the pants I want you to see. As always, wear what makes you comfortable and confident, not what others say is trending.
I love the fit and feel of this Classic White Shirt. It is over 60% cotton but has a little spandex and polyester, which makes it feel silky and gives it a tiny amount of stretchiness. The length is perfect for tucking in or wearing loose. I’m wearing a medium that fits great and doesn’t pull at the buttons.

Y’all should know now how much I love Talbots! I’ve purchased so many things from them over the years, and Joe almost always compliments me when I wear something from there. Anyhoo, I love this plaid shirt in cotton flannel. You can wear it with jeans or dress it up a bit with some contrasting pants. Available in Misses, Petite, and Plus.
Oooh, these colors are so pretty! This version is from Amazon, always an affordable option. While I love the blackberry color, there are several others that are cute. The suede-like material inside the cuffs and collar is a nice detail. The best news? The reviewers say this shirt is incredibly soft!
Looking for something a little lighter? This pink and cream version from Talbots is darling. It’s officially called Pink Champaign. Nice! I like the flannel fabric and the curved hem. This would look great with a pair of trending grey jeans or cream corduroys. Available in Misses, Petite, and Plus.

Thanks, Talbots, for another cute shirt! This is perfect for the cold winter days. I love the foil snowflakes and would wear this to any family event, party, or even work. Pairing it with a cute vest would be great, too. I tried this shirt during a try-on haul, and the fabric is a little thin, so keep that in mind. If you think the fabric is too thin, you can wear a cami underneath it, but I thought it was fine. Available in Misses, Petite, and Plus.
LOVE! This paisley print is just gorgeous. Oh, I could wear this with so many colors! Imagine this with a cardigan of deep wine or green, or maybe the goldenrod. Wow! Of course, it’s beautiful enough on its own. This is 100% cotton, so it might need ironing if you don’t grab it straight out of the dryer. Available in Misses, Petite, and Plus.
Pineapples are a symbol of hospitality, so wear this cute button-down while entertaining! Like the one above, it’s also 100% cotton. This is a thinner shirt; you can see the top of her jeans through it in the photograph. You could wear a thin cami underneath or wear a blue tank top and leave this one unbuttoned. That’d look great! Also, take note. While it looks like the sleeves are short, she’s just pushed them up. This is a long-sleeved shirt. Available in Misses, Petite, and Plus.

How about a pop of color? Yes, please! This would give the wow factor to just about anything from jeans to a plain black pair of pants. I love a shirt that I can dress up or down. This runs a bit large, so don’t size up. If anything, go down a size! If hot pink isn’t your favorite, it also comes in black, white, and a few prints. Available from XS to 6X. I styled this same shirt in a leopard print, and I’ll show it below. (it is tucked in, Lol!)
If you’ve been reading the blog for long, you know I love a good denim shirt! This is actual denim, not washed cotton, so you can wear this as a shirt or a light jacket. If you already have a blue jean jacket, don’t worry. This comes in 20 different color options! Sizes from XS to 3X.
Someone needs to let this model know that the half-tuck is OVER. Geesh. I saw this peach button-down, and all I could think about was pairing it with some white jeans.
