CM Punk wrestled his first WWE match in almost ten years last night (Dec. 26) at the company’s annual post-Christmas visit to New York’s Madison Square Garden. It’s been the talk of the wrestle web, with videos or pictures of everything Punk — and his opponent Dominik Mysterio, his opponent’s Mamí Rhea Ripley, the crowd, other members of the roster — did or said being shared and discussed on social media… and sites like this one.
A couple of those items in particular caught our eye, starting with one of the comments on WWE’s Instagram of Punk’s MSG entrance…
It’s nice to see Chris Jericho celebrating a former co-worker’s accomplishments, regardless of how things went between them the last time they worked together. It’s just a little odd seeing as Jericho was on a different social media platform claiming to have witnessed “disgusting” behavior by Punk about 48 hours earlier. Anyway…
Just as nice but less head-scratching is another moment WWE shared, this one featuring some reps from the Garden offering Punk a custom gift. Generally speaking, the engraved plaque commemorating his return to the iconic venue is a cool little honor for a guy who’s reverence for pro wrestling has been evident since he returned in 2021. Personally as someone who is also an awkward present-received, it also might be the most I’ve ever identified with Punk:
