During the Christmas Day loss to Las Vegas, two Kansas City starters left the game with injuries.
Just in case you were concerned that not enough things went wrong during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday afternoon, we should remind you that at least two Kansas City starters missed time after suffering injuries.
One of them was right guard Trey Smith, who missed time in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a knee injury. After the game, head coach Andy Reid described it as an injury to Smith’s left calf.
Another was starting running back Isiah Pacheco, who lost his helmet while being tackled during a play in the third quarter — and then took a knee to the head while he was on the ground. Reid confirmed that Pacheco had entered the NFL’s concussion protocol.
The good news was that Clyde Edwards-Helaire once again made some plays after taking over for the starter — one of them a 42-yard pass play where he broke a tackle and rumbled to the Raiders’ 9-yard line. Unfortunately, the possession came to naught when Mahomes’ fourth-and-7 pass to Rashee Rice in the end zone fell incomplete.
“He did a real nice job when we gave him the chance in there,” said Reid. “He had some nice carries — and nice touches, period. So he’s playing good football.”
