Mike Norvell Opens Up On Process Of Keeping Quarterback Luke Kromenhoek Committed | 12.20.23

Florida State offered Luke Kromenhoek before anyone knew his name — and it paid off.

On Wednesday, the four-star prospect signing his NLI to play in Tallahassee after being committed to Norvell since 2022 despite last-second pushes from other schools to land his services.

Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell revealed what he saw out of Kromenhoek, even though he didn’t start at quarterback for his high school until his junior year.

“We identified some some great characteristics about him early,” Norvell told Staples. “He was actually committed to us before he ever started high school game. His sophomore year he started as a receiver and defensive back there for his program. They had a really good quarterback that was there his sophomore year and he was waiting for his opportunity. He’d come to camps, we got to see him work, but I believed in the young man.

“I believed in all that he would grow to become. The first year as a starting quarterback, he won a state championship, and then just continue to develop into what I believe is the best quarterback in the country.”

That belief turned into reality as in 2022, Kromenhoek developed into one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects after throwing for 2,576 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes Benedictine (GA) Military School.

Kromenhoek’s prowess on the gridiron earned him No. 40 overall prospect in the cycle, though, was listed as a five-star recruit back in October. He’s the No. 4 QB in the cycle and No. 6 player in Georgia. He sits atop the class alongside CB Charles Lester III and TE Landen Thomas at the top of Mike Norvell’s 2024 class.

“He’s about all the right things,” Norvell continued. “He’s been a wonderful leader for this class that’s coming together. I’m so excited about what he’s going to bring into our football program on and off the field.”

It remains to be seen how much Kromenhoek will play in his first season at Florida State, as Tate Rodemaker is expected to take over the starting quarterback role for the exiting Jordan Travis. It would likely be up to him and Brock Glenn, who is currently a true freshman at FSU and passed for 510 yards and five touchdowns in 2023, for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Of course, that is if Kromenhoek doesn’t utilize his redshirt.

As an early enrollee, Kromenhoek will be on campus and practicing with the team as they prep for Georgia in the Orange Bowl, providing him invaluable experience heading into his first season in college football.
