One of the biggest disappointments of this year’s Game Awards was the no-show from Elden Ring developer, FromSoftware. The masterful open-world RPG won Game Of The Year in 2022, and the game had been the most highly-anticipated game at the award show the year prior.
Naturally, fans were hoping to get a glimpse of the upcoming Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC during the award ceremonies, but such was not to be. In fairness, FromSoftware rarely drops trailers during these type of events, saving them for totally random dates where they can bask in the warm glow of unsullied attention.
Now, a new leak on reddit points to a release date sooner than anybody expected, though much later than typical FromSoftware DLC for its previous titles. The leak itself is from an apparent collaboration between FromSoftware and Thrustmaster (which is a gaming controller manufacturer, not an exercise video).
The collaboration documents—which are being scrubbed from the internet, indicating more than anything that they’re in fact the real deal—show a February, 2024 release for Shadow of the Erdtree, and possible collaboration in 2025 with some further Elden Ring content, though it’s impossible to say with any certainty that more DLC for the game will be released.
February might seem a lot sooner than anyone expected given the lack of a trailer or even screenshots outside the one at the top of this post. That shows a figure riding a mount across a wide open field lit by the golden glow of the Erdtree. Fans theorize that this is Miquella, Malenia’s twin brother who she calls “the most fearsome Empyrean of all.” It was Miquella who created the massive Haligtree in a futile attempt to save his sister from the rot, though he was kidnapped by Mohg, Lord of Blood, before he could finish his work.
A February 2024 surprise release of the Elden Ring DLC would be a welcome start to the new year. If true, gamers should expect a trailer sooner than later. Then again, perhaps we should put these foolish ambitions to rest—or at least take this leak with a grain of salt.
