Three years after announcing a partnership, Fear of God x
According to a release by the brand, Athletics “completes the brand architecture of Fear of God, which was established in 2013.” Notes of each tier (Fear of God and ESSENTIALS) can be seen within the third pillar Lorenzo alludes to — from oversized drill tops and an accompanying track pant that harks to NBA Tear Away pants, but reimagined in a minimally futuristic aesthetic that is reminiscent of the attire worn in sci-fi films, such as Dune.
Photographed by artist Nadav Kander, the campaign carries subtle biblical undertones, from an image of a model with arms outstretched, visor on towards the sky as if mimicking a painting depicting Jesus Christ to an accompanying film, where a series of models are shown walking on water towards three jagged mountains in the shape of The Three Stripes. “The house is built to mirror the very nature and design of the highest being,” Lorenzo added, “where there is both unity and diversity in the trinity.”
While the exact details of the clothing is still under wraps, Athletics debut line features a number of classic staples, such as zip-ups, sleeveless tops and jackets, to a range of performance crewnecks, and accessories. The announcement comes off the heels of the Fear of God x adidas Basketball sneaker that Lorenzo was spotted wearing back in May.
Athletics will officially launch on December 3 online at Fear of God and adidas’ CONFIRMED, as well select adidas DTC stores on December 6. Ahead of the release, however, Fear of God will hold an event called “The Athletics Atmosphere” in Los Angeles on November 30 to December 3 from 11am to 6pm PT.
