The United States of America may ban visas for Israeli lawbreakers who commit violence against Palestinians living in the West Bank.
This is what Joe Biden, the president of the US has announced in a Post op-ed, published in the Washington Post, VisaGuide.World reports.
I have been emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must be held accountable. The United States is prepared to take our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians in the West Bank.
Moreover, a Cabinet memorandum dispatched to major aides such as Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday instructs their respective agencies “to develop policy options for expeditious action against those responsible for the conduct of violence in the West Bank” as Politico reported.
According to the same source, reprimands for Israeli lawbreakers include individuals or entities that, either directly or indirectly, involved in activities or policies that threaten the security or stability of the West Bank, engage in actions intimidating civilians with the intent or outcome of displacing them, or commit human rights abuses hindering efforts to achieve a two-state solution are a concern.
While in the Post op-ed, among other things, Biden noted that the US supports Israel in the war against Hamas, he condemned the attacks against Palestinians living in the West Bank. He still noted that Palestinian people deserve a state of their own and a future free of Hamas.
According to him, establishing a two-state solution is the sole means to guarantee long-term security between Israel and Palestine.
Parents are writing their child’s name on their hand or leg so they can be identified if the worst happens. Palestinian nurses and doctors are trying desperately to save every precious life they possibly can, with little to no resources. Every innocent Palestinian life lost is a tragedy that rips apart families and communities.
Recently, the United States warned that Israel is violating the visa waiver program by denying entry to Palestinian Americans living in the occupied West Bank since October 7.
Although the US authorities did not specify what measure could be taken, according to Axios, if the Israeli government continues to violate this agreement, Israeli citizens’ privileges – who presently do not require a visa to enter the US – may be suspended.
