The mother of one of the four teenagers who were found dead on a camping trip has said she didn’t know her son was going camping.
Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson and Hugo Morris, all aged between 16 and 18, recently went on an overnight camping trip to Snowdonia, North Wales.
Superintendent Owain Llewellyn said: “Police officers attended and located a Ford Fiesta vehicle on its roof, partially submerged in water.
“Tragically, the bodies of four young males were recovered from within the vehicle.
“The families of the missing boys have been informed.
“At present, this appears to have been a tragic accident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the four young men at this very difficult time.”
Inquiries into why the car left the road are underway, the force said.
Crystal Owen, 17-year-old Harvey’s mother, said she did not know her son was going on a camping trip and thought he was going to stay at a friend’s grandfather’s house.
“I am frantically worried, we haven’t slept a wink, we are desperate to chase any lead we can,” Crystal told the BBC before the teenagers’ bodies were found.
“If I’d have known [where he was going] I wouldn’t have let him due to the winter weather conditions.
“They are all sensitive, intelligent lads and we are just hoping they parked up, got lost and are OK.”
Crystal – who runs a cupcake shop with her partner – wrote: “I just wanted to say I do appreciate people’s kindness but no amount of messages is going to help me overcome this.
“Nothing will make this nightmare go away.
“I would just like to inform people that due to me having a moderate sized team now I am not able to just close the shop and keep my staff’s wages paid and I haven’t had the time to even organise closure so it’s easier mentally to just switch off and leave it open as usual.
“I cannot cope with dealing with anything related so will be leaving the shop in the good hands of my partner and team for the time being.
“I am aiming to let them take over the social media and messaging etc but that won’t be for a few days so everything will be as normal but you won’t be inundated with cake pictures.”
